Astoria’s entire Nordic community comes together for Santa Lucia…

…and the Danes are hosting the 2019 event.

The Danes are hosting Lucia Festival this year. We always welcome volunteers to assist with hosting. This Winter Festival of Light is how Astoria’s Nordic community kicks off the Christmas season - with music, caroling, dancing, and of course the Procession of Light lead by the Santa Lucia bride and her attendants. This is a family-friendly event! A modest admission charge of $1 per person or $5 per family goes entirely to support Scandinavian Festival Scholarship Fund for local students, and admission includes not only the evening program but a light snack, non-alcoholic holiday punch and coffee, and public dancing to live music.

Morning set-up at 10 AM involves placing tables and cutting of the bread morning. Evening set-up at 5:30 PM lays out the foods, plates, and napkins as well as mixes the holiday punch. Serving takes place about 7:45 PM, and clean-up takes place around 8:45 PM.
